Today's offering features this elegant and striking vintage Wittnauer 14k gold watch that was owned and worn by baseball legend and Yankee Hall of Fame great Lefty Gomez.

It has a beautiful mid-century style with prominent fasteners and is inscribed on the back with "Connie Mack Day - August 21, 1949 - Yankee Stadium."

On August 21, 1949, the New York Yankees celebrated “Connie Mack Day” at Yankee Stadium. Mack, 86, revered for his 49 years at the helm of the Philadelphia Athletics, was honored for his remarkable career. For nearly five decades, Mack led the A's to five world championships and amassed a record placing him atop career wins, losses and successful matches. As a tribute to his legacy, 65,000 fans attended the pre-match ceremony. Mack, along with many former A's and Yankees, received a watch from the New York Yankees in recognition of his "long and meritorious service to baseball."

A few identical watches were also presented to other people who played that day. special to the great southpaw Yankee Gomez.

We did not polish the watch or do anything to the exterior except install a new crystal to give a clear view of the dial...otherwise we left it as Mr. Gomez used it for the last time, which includes scratches and wear, a little dirt, etc. It has all its original parts. It arrived to us from his collection without a strap, so we installed a brand new lizard leather strap to make it ready to enjoy right away.

One of our master watchmakers took the movement apart down to its last screw and cleaned and oiled it. the movement makes it ready to be enjoyed immediately.
