Cerruti 1881 1990s Green Plaid Wool Blazer — Specially for Tailoring | IT58

This is a 1990s Cerruti 1881 blazer from the “Specially for Tailoring” sub-line — a production channel made for independent boutique tailors, not standard ready-to-wear. The 100% virgin wool and the documented factory codes place it clearly above Cerruti’s general catalog from this era. If you collect or wear 1990s Italian menswear seriously, this one is worth examining.

“Specially for Tailoring” is not a marketing designation. It identifies a specific distribution line — pieces produced for tailoring boutiques rather than retail stores. The embroidered sub-label and factory code (MOD. 7008 / COD. MAD. 600) are both visible and documented, which makes verified examples uncommon compared to Cerruti 1881’s standard ready-to-wear output from the same period.

Cerruti 1881 reached its peak visibility in the mid-1990s — appointed official designer for Ferrari’s F1 team in 1994, and dressing on-screen talent throughout the decade. This blazer dates from that window (estimated 1990–1998), made in Italy at the Lanificio Fratelli Cerruti mill in Biella. The virgin wool from this mill was among the finest available to European menswear at the time. The green plaid — with its subtle red, blue, and brown checks — reflects the kind of complex weave the Lanificio was known for producing.

Classic Italian tailoring throughout: soft shoulders without visible padding, notch lapel, three-button closure, natural drape. Two flap pockets. Blue synthetic lining (rayon/cupro, not specified on label). Dark buttons, no monogram. Dry clean only — label reads “LAVARE A SECCO.”

Label size: IT 58 (equivalent EU 52–54 / US 42–44).
Flat measurements in cm: Shoulders 54 | Chest 63 | Sleeve length 65 | Total length 84.

Condition is good — solid and wearable for a vintage piece of this age. Light pilling on both exterior armpits and mid-sleeve, photographed clearly. Small tears in the interior lining near the armholes — cosmetic only; the structure and shell fabric are fully intact. No stains, no holes in the exterior wool. All three buttons original and functional.

The documented sub-line, mill-sourced virgin wool, and verified production codes give this piece clear authentication markers. It is not a rare archive find — but it is an uncommon one, and everything here is traceable.

Happy to provide close-up photos of the weave, labels, lining, or any construction detail. Let me know if you have questions.
