WWII / Korean War RAF & Fleet Air Arm Irvin-Type Flying Jacket – Air Ministry

An original British Air Ministry Irvin-type flying jacket, attributed to the Second World War / Korean War period. Four-panel construction, fitted with original Air Ministry zippers. The left sleeve is stamped with a crown over “AM”. The jacket retains its original waist belt and features a sheepskin-lined interior.

The interior label is marked with a crown over “A.M.” and size 8. The jacket carries the stores reference “L.P.O.69.AMU.” and is additionally marked in ink “O.N.B.”

Provenance:
This jacket is attributed to Captain Oswald Nigel Bailey, Royal Navy. Born 19 June 1913, he is listed in the Navy List from January 1933 and progressed through the ranks to Acting Commander in 1944 and later Captain (General List). He was awarded the O.B.E. (Military Division) in 1954 for his service aboard HMS Ocean. He later served as High Sheriff of Wiltshire in 1972. He died on 27 July 1991 aged 78.

Condition:
The jacket shows genuine period wear consistent with age and use. The leather displays surface wear, scuffing and patina. The sheepskin lining shows wear and thinning in areas. Zippers function and the waist belt remains present. No modern alterations observed.

A rare and well-documented example of an original Air Ministry flying jacket with named attribution, suitable for advanced collectors of RAF / Fleet Air Arm aviation and British military history.
