Material: Cowhide leather upper, textile lining, synthetic sole
Manufactured in: Korea (Original production, not a reissue)
Includes: Original box & tags
Extremely rare, Spain-exclusive model from the late 80s/early 90s
Original Tag & Labeling:
The tag on your Reebok Grant Park shoes exhibits characteristics consistent with Reebok’s older releases. The price displayed in pesetas (10,995 pts) provides strong evidence that the shoes were originally sold in Spain before the euro was adopted in 2002. This detail reinforces their authenticity and historical significance.
The presence of "Sport Reebok, S.A." on the tag further solidifies the shoe's authenticity. This was Reebok’s official distributor in Spain during the late 80s and early 90s, adding another layer of credibility to their origin.
High-Quality Materials:
The upper of your Grant Park shoes is crafted from "Piel Vacuna" (Cowhide Leather). This premium material was commonly used in high-quality athletic footwear during that era, particularly basketball shoes, due to its durability and support. The use of cowhide leather speaks to the shoe's original quality and intended purpose.
Factory Details:
As mentioned earlier, the fact that your shoes were made in Korea aligns with Reebok's manufacturing practices during the late 80s and early 90s. Counterfeit shoes from that era were rarely produced in Korea, making this detail a reliable indicator of authenticity.
Box Design & Branding:
The presence of the Union Jack on the shoebox is a nod to Reebok’s British heritage. This branding element was frequently incorporated into Reebok's European releases during that period, further supporting the shoe's authenticity and origin.
Reebok in the Late 80s/90s: This was a golden era for Reebok, marked by groundbreaking innovations and iconic models. The Pump technology, introduced in 1989, revolutionized the sneaker industry with its customizable fit. Reebok's basketball shoes, like the Blacktop series, gained popularity on and off the court, while their classic runners and trainers became synonymous with street style.
"Grant Park" Model: This specific model isn't widely documented, adding to its mystique and potential rarity. The name "Grant Park" likely references Chicago’s famous park, aligning with Reebok’s strong presence in basketball and urban culture during that era. It's possible that this model was a regional release or a limited edition, making it a unique find for collectors.
Manufactured in Korea: During the 80s and 90s, Reebok, like many other footwear companies, utilized manufacturing facilities in South Korea. This was before the widespread shift of production to China and Vietnam in the 2000s. The "Made in Korea" label on your Grant Park shoes is a testament to their vintage status and aligns with Reebok's manufacturing practices during that period.
