Celine

Black

A sculpted gold-tone buckle serves as the centerpiece here, cast with Celine's horse
and carriage "Sulky" motif in crisp relief and finished with a classic serif
"CELINE" engraving across the frame. The buckle has a subtle vintage
patina, its edges catching the light against a jet-black leather strap. The
strap itself is a later replacement, fitted to the original hardware and backed
with smooth beige leather on the reverse.

No visible logo adorns the exterior—the focus remains on the equestrian buckle,
which fastens cleanly at the waist. The interior is unlined except for the beige
leather backing, and there is no serial number or sizing information along the strap. “MADE IN
ITALY” is stamped on the reverse of the buckle.

This buckle design emerged during the Céline Vipiana era, circa the late 1970s–1980s,
when the house was appealing to women drawn to equestrian aesthetics without the
formality of Hermès. The Sulky motif and serif label are hallmarks of the
period, reflecting Céline’s Parisian identity under its founder.

Era: Late 1970s–1980s (visual dating; Sulky motif buckle, serif label)

later, non-Céline replacement
Material: Black leather strap (replacement) with gold-tone horse and carriage
“Sulky” buckle

Dimensions: 105 × 2.8 cm
