Pleats Please Issey Miyake vintage tangerine top, circa mid-2000s

From Issey Miyake’s Pleats Please line, this vivid tangerine top — w/ its tubular silhouette, half sleeves & scoop neckline — aligns w/ the modular 2004–2010 Basics series (Japanese care tags & mid-2000s production codes confirm this). It hails from a period defined by bold monochrome palettes & lightweight architectural shapes.

Miyake’s patented post-construction pleating technique, developed w/ textile engineer Makiko Minagawa in the late 1980s, remains one of fashion’s most influential innovations, still coveted by gen z fans & industry insiders alike. The result: a heat-set polyester that retains its form & elasticity through years of wear. While pleated silks had existed before — most notably those of early 20th-century Venetian designer Mariano Fortuny — it wasn’t until Miyake’s launch of Pleats Please in 1993 that pleats became an accessible, everyday design language. This archival top stands as a bright marker in that evolution.

Size: One size (fits approx. S–M). Measurement estimates avail upon request.
Condition: Very good vintage; light surface wear consistent w/ age.
